Marissa Hylton
Graduate Intern
Hi, I’m Marissa.
I believe you are the leader of your therapeutic journey and the expert on yourself.
It’s my role and an honor to witness and be alongside your exploration into your inner world. I aim to create a safe, welcoming space for you by listening intently and emphatically.
I have experience working with kids, teens, and families. My therapeutic approach is person-centered. I can incorporate Sand Tray into sessions for people of all ages. Sand Tray uses figurines to represent one's inner world, thoughts, and feelings. It can be a powerful tool to tap into your subconscious and gain insight into inner conflicts and strengths. I use a Play Therapy approach with kids and teens. I am passionate about the power of play, as it allows kids to explore and process trauma and emotions safely.
I am in my final year of the Clinical Mental Health Counseling Master’s Program at Lindenwood University and working toward my Registered Play Therapist certification. I have earned a Bachelor’s and a Master's in Education. In my early career, I taught early childhood special education within the public school system. I worked closely alongside our school counselor and began to learn about trauma and social-emotional development. My interest in counseling blossomed, and I started transitioning into the field. Additionally, I have worked with families in crisis and as a developmental therapist in early intervention, supporting infants, toddlers, and their families.
