My practice is focused on families affected by special needs including foster care and adoption. As a former foster parent, I know how alienating and frustrating that world can be. Parenting is difficult. It’s especially difficult for those who have additional considerations when it comes to parenting: blended families, foster children, adopted children, children with special needs, etc. These parents need additional support and understanding.

For the past 14 years, I have spent time in the education system advocating for children with special needs as a teacher, classroom aide, and a parent. I have experience working with children, teens, and adults with various physical and intellectual disabilities. While not an exhaustive list, I have worked with people who have diagnoses of Angelman Syndrome, autism, blindness, brain injury, Down Syndrome, Prader-Willi Syndrome, stroke, and congenital issues that make communication difficult.

If you are a person with disabilities or a loved one of a person with disabilities, feel free to schedule an appointment. I am willing and able to make accommodations for you to help you have access to the office and mental health support.

Foster and adoptive parents often struggle to find a safe space in which to process their unique challenges. Sometimes the trauma the child has gone through ends up traumatizing the adults as well. Mental health support for the parents can help the entire family to re-establish felt safety and a loving environment. If you feel you need additional support, please make an appointment.

My approach to mental health is strengths-based and solution-focused with liberal doses of CBT and other research-based methods. I work with clients to co-create goals and then help clients to meet those goals. We will use various tools and techniques until we find what works for you to gain the momentum to be empowered to affect change in your own life.
